José Matias Alves

José Matias Alves is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education and Psychology of the Portuguese Catholic University. He has authored or organized more than a hundred books, dozens of book chapters, and 100 scientific articles published in specialized journals, as well as texts in newspapers or magazines, and editorial contributions to journals. He served as the Coordinator of the Final Reports Evaluation Committee for the area of Sciences and Education Policies at FCT (2016-2018 and 2019-2023) and was the Deputy Director of the Faculty of Education and Psychology (2011-2021). Additionally, he has been the President of the Fiscal Council of the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences since 2017.

He has supervised 59 Master’s dissertations (up to December 2023), 25 doctoral theses, and 3 post-doctoral projects (up to December 2023) in the field of Educational Sciences. He was a member of the Scientific Council for Teacher Evaluation (2008) and served as the President of the Municipal Assembly of Gondomar (2009-2013). Furthermore, he held the position of Director-General of Secondary Education from 1994 to 1996.”
